Operating along the west coast bypassing the downtown areas of Taichung, the coast line section of the western trunk line runs between Zhunan near Hsinchu and Changhua, servicing rural communities as well as the Taichung Port.
Passengers traveling by this section between the north and south may enjoy riding through this section with ocean and rural views. Passengers who wish to alight Miaoli's town, hot spring, and Hakka heritage areas or within the downtown Taichung City area should board a train running through the Mountain section.
